If you feel like you are being watched, you are not alone. Unfortunately, you are also justified. You may have eyes on you. Those eyes may be critiquing your every move. More and more insurance companies are resorting to very aggressive tactics in order to gather information that they can misinterpret as proof that their insureds are not disabled so they can cut off benefits. Be aware: Insurance companies may use investigators to take pictures or surveillance videos of you when you leave your home.
How You Can Protect Yourself
You know the truth. You know that you are not collecting benefits because you want to, but because you need to. You are disabled and you cannot work. The key is that you need to take great care to make certain the truth is supported by documentation.
For example, if you leave your home for an appointment with your doctor, make certain that appointment is documented. If you go to the gym or partake in some form of exercise outdoors because your doctor ordered you to, make certain that your doctor documented these orders. While you may have gone to the gym to do a series of low-impact exercises recommended as part of your physical therapy, insurance companies love nothing more than to take photographic or videotaped images of you walking into the gym and to use those images as proof that you have miraculously recovered and are no longer disabled.
At DarrasLaw, America’s top disability firm, our lawyers have more than 100 years of experience taking on insurance companies. While their tactics may be very stressful for you, we are here to help you combat them in order to get the benefits you paid for.
