2019 Multiple Sclerosis Essay Contest:
Multiple Sclerosis, more commonly referred to as MS, is a neurological disorder that affects the nerves of the brain and spinal cord. MS can lead to the loss of visual acuity, numbness in the extremities, muscle fatigue and muscle spasticity, and loss of bladder and bowel control. To learn more about Multiple Sclerosis or how you can help donate to fund research, click here.
To participate in the contest, applicants should write an essay of 800 to 1000 words addressing the following question:
Recent research funded by the MS Society has confirmed that nearly one million people are living with MS in the United States, more than twice the original estimate from a previous study. We learned, while representing hundreds of hardworking individuals disabled by MS, that everyone’s battle with MS is different and unique. As someone living with MS, or a dependent of someone living with MS, you are aware of the daily challenges. Knowing each person’s symptoms are different and they can change and fluctuate over time, what has been your recipe for managing the disease? How can others help? How can we make more people aware of this disease in hopes of more funding for research, support services, and education?
