How long does this Policy Protect Me?

“Whether you bought an individual disability policy or you got a group policy from work, most group and individual policies will protect and insure to either age 65 or normal retirement age. The more important question to ask, is how long am I protected in my own occupation?”

“If you look at the policy definition of occupation, it’ll usually say between 12 and 24 months. That’s what you’re protected for in your occupation, not the individual demands of the job for the employer you’ve worked for. But if you’re a secretary, what is the secretary’s duties and requirements in the national economy? Generally 12 to 24 months, and then you’ve got to be disabled from every occupation by which you’re trained, educated, or suited.”
